Worldcat

Every record in OCLC's WorldCat includes a list of libraries which hold the item being viewed and links to their catalogs. The list is based on the user's location, showing closest copies, but the location can be changed on the page using zip, city state, etc.

Links to library catalogs are managed through the https://firstsearch.oclc.org administrative module, which requires high-level access. To manage or update our links, navigate to the Linking section and select Web Library Catalogs. Besides a link to the catalog's main page, it asks for ISBN, ISSN, and OCLC number linking syntax. Unlike systems which allow one to use a placeholder to represent the variable, this form expects to append the value of ISBN, ISSN, or OCLC number to the url provided.

In Blacklight, we use the same "identifiers" search for all three values, so the url to provide remains the same: https://catalog.libraries.psu.edu/catalog?utf8=%E2%9C%93&op=AND&search_field=advanced&commit=Search&identifiers=

Note that because of the expectations of appending the value, identifiers= must come at the end.

WorldCat also includes links to Illiad which use OpenUrl syntax to populate ILL requests with fields from the record. This is not tied to the catalog.
