Format for Exporting Bound-With Information for Linked Notes

Generated bound-with entries from the catalog dump will use field 591.

  • Subfield a: parent title
  • Subfield c: parent catkey (949c)
  • Subfield t: parent format (949t)
  • Subfield n: parent call number and copy number indicated by "c." (949a)

When this comes straight from the The CAT, it will be just a 591a, as $c is not valid in The CAT. This will help us differentiate between functional bound-with notes which should be linked to records and other bound-with notes, which should simply be displayed. 591a are notes, 591ac (+tn) are parent binding item.

Displaying

  • The field should be labeled: Binding notes
  • When it only contains a subfield a:
    • The value is simple multivalued text
  • When it includes a subfield c:
    • It is assumed a subfield a,t, and n are present
    • The value of the parent title is linked

Binding Notes: 591n (591t) bound in (link to 591c, link text 591a)

Example (in The CAT):

AY67.N5W7 1922-24 c. 1 (MICROFORM) bound in The World almanac and encyclopedia

For format, we'll use translation map.

Indexing

We will not be explicitly indexing or boosting this data, it will be captured in the all_text_timv. For example, search "John Holmes" and find the record with "John Holmes" in the binding notes at /catalog/180271.
