Access facet have five possible values (displayed in this order):

  • On Order
  • Other (will be removed)

Note: we will be adding Open Access mapping to the facet, but it is derived from different fields. See documentation of OA facet mapping.

Access Facet Mapping

949m list of non-ONLINE libraries (see below) AND 949l == "ON-ORDER" On Order
949m not in the list of non-ONLINE libraries (see below) Other
949m in the acquisitions list (see below) On Order
949m ZREMOVED or XTERNAL N/A

HathiTrust/ETAS: When adding a HathiTrust ID to the index, also add Online to the access facet field.

Possible Values and Limits on Values

In theory, a record could be available as two or three of these. e.g. we might have an online copy and a physical one on-order. It could have physical copies and more on-order. However, IF an item has any values other than "On Order," we do not include "On Order." This is because renewing items are always "On Order," as are serials, etc. The facet is intended to identify things which will soon be available but which are not yet available.

If the resulting access facet list includes "On Order" along with any other value, then we remove "On Order" from the list.

So, possible values are:

  • ["In the Library"]
  • ["In the Library", "Online"]
  • ["Online"]
  • ["On Order"]

The following arrays would be invalid:

  • ["On Order", "In the Library"]
  • ["On Order", "Online"]
  • ["On Order", "In the Library", "Online"]

Note: Acquisitions list libraries will ONLY be used for availability. the business function of finding out WHICH branch of acquisitions they're in is a Workflows job. However, we may have items on order/in processing which will show up in the Cat and shouldn't look like they're actually in the library yet.
