Heads up: The Grafana Mimir team is proposing a new and more performant, hashing based, API. See my PR, which also documents significant performance gains via benchmark stats. I additionally have a PoC based on the new API, that converts directly from OTel metrics to Mimir format (dropping the intermediate Prometheus format). Would be happy to hear Thanos developers' perspective too (a Cortex developer has provided positive feedback already). |

Yet to write any tests for it, but it can be spin up locally with scripts/quickstart-otel.sh
