Closes #9315
Ref: latex3/latex2e#586
As explained in #9315 the June 01, 2021 LaTeX released induced for us a problem with extra whitespace at start of merged cells in grid tables. Upstream LaTeX integrated mid-June a change to improve its broken compatibility with
varwidth
package. This however did not fix it here for us, as the top whitespace disappeared but bottom whitespace appeared...Turns out a benign change on our side
makes this bottom whitespace go away too. The change is backwards compatible, the extra
\vskip0pt
causes no change to output if using a LaTeX release prior to June 2021.So Sphinx users will not see the #9315 issue if they have either LaTeX prior to June 2021 or LaTeX from June 2021 with its patches. At least if nothing else changes upstream, and the varwidth upstream patch either is moved to varwidth itself or keeps being distributed with latex "first-aid" automatic mechanism of compatibility with third-party packages.
