  • The frontend directory contains the React frontend code, including components, pages, and application logic.

  • The backend directory contains the Node.js and Express backend code responsible for handling API requests, database interactions, and authentication.

  • The .env.example file serves as a template for environment variables needed to configure the application. Rename it to .env and provide your own values.

Getting Started

To set up and run this Student Management System on your local machine, follow these steps:

  1. Clone the repository to your local machine:

    git clone https://github.com/yourusername/student-management-system-mern.git
  2. Navigate to the frontend and backend directories separately and install the required dependencies:

    cd frontend
    npm install
    
    cd ../backend
    npm install
  3. Create a MongoDB database and update the .env file in the backend directory with your database connection string and other required variables.

  4. In the frontend directory, update the API endpoint (in src/config.js) to point to your backend server.

  5. Start the frontend and backend servers:

    In the frontend directory:

    npm start

    In the backend directory:

    npm start
  6. Access the application by opening your web browser and navigating to http://localhost:3000.

Usage

Once the application is up and running, you can:

  • Register and login as an administrator or educator.
  • Manage student records, including adding new students and updating existing ones.
