I've regressed to my last known working version and stepped all the way up. It last works in 8.0.1 and broken in 8.1.0 and all subsequent versions up to and including 8.2.0.

withImage.open(imageFile) asthumb:
app.logger.info('makeThumb - about to make a thumbnail')
thumb.thumbnail((160, 160), Image.ANTIALIAS)
app.logger.info('makeThumb - about to save')
thumb.save(dest, "JPEG")
app.logger.info('makeThumb()SUCCESS!')
exceptExceptionase:
app.logger.info('makeThumb() thumbnail save error: '+str(e))
Testing, I find the -9 error was caused by #5175 - that was fixed in #5372.
But #5372 introduced a new error - the image can't be identified, as it has "unknown data organization" - the SAMPLESPERPIXEL tag is missing.
What did you do?
Opened a Canon 'RAW' image in order to create a thumbnail of it.
What did you expect to happen?
No errors. (This has worked fine up for me from 7.0.0 up to and including 8.0.1).
What actually happened?
Unable to create the thumbnail.
What are your OS, Python and Pillow versions?
I've regressed to my last known working version and stepped all the way up. It last works in 8.0.1 and broken in 8.1.0 and all subsequent versions up to and including 8.2.0.
An example of a Canon raw is this 26M file.
Note that this issue is consistent across all Canon RAW images I'm shooting and not specific to an individual image.
Here's the log of a successful creation under v8.0.1:
Here's what the same code & image returns under 8.1.0:
The error/issue remains unchanged in 8.2.0.
exifreader reports the image thus:
(This might be possibly a dupe of Issue #5317 ?)
Thanks.
