Input echo behaviour is dependant on the window size

This issue is a sidenote to this one.
Ideally, I would like to have no echo in this case (or at least a command-line option to disable it), but while it's there, here are some weird behavior observations:

• echo presence is dependant on the window size
• echo may corrupt output
