Osmosis is unmaintained, those pull requests are just piling up here with no one working on them.

Pointing out the maybe obvious: osmosis has been "officially" unmaintained for a substantial amount of time. And yes this is a PITA and really bad for OSM, unluckily my suggestion that this might be something somebody should be paid for given the widespread use, as long as there is no replacement wasn't taken well.

Replication will move to https://github.com/joto/osmdbt I'd say, and populating an OSM API DB using some planet file could probably be done with something based on libosmium. Maybe @joto already has some plans for it? Everything else is pretty much covered by osmium already.

There are no JAVA bindings for osmium, when they exist, -then- you might be correct (might because there are lots of reasons why you wouldn't want to use native code).

You mean third party plugins for osmosis? Yes, they're not covered. Are there important ones you had in mind?

osmosis is being used as a library literally all over the place.

Ok, you mean the larger osm ecosystem. I was only thinking about the core osm stuff, basically what is running on osm.org.

I agree, Osmosis is literally everywhere.

Just in case you are planing a release please include #51 (no code change just removes an old broken dependency).

Will do! @brettch is stepping me through the release process starting with this small change. If successful, I’ll review the prior PRs for inclusion and change the README here to set expectations. I anticipate I’ll be able to devote 1-2 hours of work time to Osmosis each month.

@migurski, thanks for your work on Osmosis!

The new release is worth a message to the osmosis-dev list. Elaborating on your plans for osmosis development on the list is also a good idea.
