I have decided to cancel my sponsorship of @nedbat due to this.

I fully support the general sentiment, but the manner in which this specific "standwithukraine" initiative has been managed is actually very harmful to the cause in my opinion. For example, the label applied to this issue: vshymanskyy/StandWithUkraine#61

@per1234 I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I want to help people, not encourage this kind of behavior.

@per1234 I've thought a lot about this.

I agree with you that it's not good to over-use the word Nazi. The discussion you linked to seems like a Russian who genuinely supports the cause, and wanted to find a way to enlist other Russians to oppose the war. Labeling him a Nazi because he disagreed with the wording of the document is counter-productive.

Other issues opened there were much more combative, and clearly would not be useful to continue. Even there, I would have chosen a different label.

BUT: my country is not being violently and senselessly destroyed. My neighbors are not being killed. My cities are not being reduced to rubble. I don't know what I would do if I found myself in that situation.

I certainly don't feel like I can debate words with someone who is going through that, and trying against the odds to counter those overwhelming forces.

I will continue to support Ukranians doing what they can in this terrible situation. I hope you won't remove your support of me over this, but I understand your concerns.

This banner is unrelated to the project's subject matter and having it s unprofessional. I think we have enough war propaganda assaulting us from every direction.

And before someone accuses me of being a pro-russian troll, we've donated food and offered a room to the Ukrainian refugees.
