Purpose of this mod:

Phase 1 - "Stop the Madness" (Phase 1 Details)

  1. Fix obvious inconsistencies, copy paste errors and things that the developers apparently forgot to update properly from earlier patches
  2. To make generalized quality of life improvements to the base game of Sword of the Stars
  3. To enhance the AI as much as easily practical without relying on gimicks like enhanced research speed (eg hard difficult)
  4. Minor tweaks each race's drive systems for a smoother ramp up and flow

Phase 2 - "Dive deep" (Phase 2 Details)

  1. Rework some more complex mechanics that... leave much to be desired: slave micromanagement, mining traps, mines vs AI, missile kiting, etc
  2. Complete weapon & armor rebalancing: weapon DPS vs ship HP, planetary bombardment
  3. Tech tree re-jiggering: adjust weapon branch racial %, moving techs to later eras,
  4. Slow down the pace of the game: later cruiser tech, more deliberate engine upgrade choices
  5. Further enhancements based on changes in phase 1

Phase 3 - "Go experimental" (Phase 3 Details)

  1. New techs, new tech connections, new tech tree mechanics (possibly borrowed from other notable mods), including large revisions to warhead techs.
  2. Introduce new scaling mechanisms so that very large empires do not trivialize the tech tree research costs.
  3. Rebalance Destroyers to try to make them more useful in the late game.

Beyond

  • Rework stations to be more interesting and integral parts of an empire (instead of small bonuses)
