# PyPalm PyPalm is tool to simplify working with the Palm webOS SDK from the command line. It is a wrapper for the various native command-line tools that handles common options and paths. Pypalm can be easily installed via pip install pypalm or easy_install pypalm or git clone git://github.com/grundprinzip/PyPalm.git && cd PyPalm && sudo python setup.py install When installed PyPalm provides a command line script that has the following options: - install - install the current version on the device - debug - launch a connection to the device - package - package the current version of the application - deploy -> package, install, start - log - print log files - emulator - launch the emulator - new_scene - Create a new scene - clean - remove all ipk file - localize - generate and update localization files All the default information is directly extracted from appinfo.json file. To execute run pypalm --help ## new_scene To create a new scene in you application you have to execute the `pypalm new_scene [name]` command. This will then generate the necessary files as it is done by the original Palm tools. ## localize When developing mobile applications it becomes very important to localize the content of the application for multiple countries. The disadvantage of the current version of the Palm WebOS developer tools is that they do not support localization in an automatic way. To help the developer PyPalm comes with a command called localize. Localize will scan all application source files and check for method calls with $L(...) it will extract the key and create an entry in the language catalog. For all supported languages it will create or update the necessary files in the folders under resources/[locale]/. For each language, two files are created: lexicon.json and strings.json. lexicon.json is intended to be used by the translator; it is a dictionary organized according to the javascript source file(s) the key strings appear in. This will help the translator to understand the context of the text. strings.json is used by the webOS framework when running the app. PyPalm will (re)generate strings.json from lexicon.json when you run `localize` after the translator is done. To specify which languages are supported add a "languages" key to the framework_config.json file in the root directory of your app. The value should be a list of the locales for which you have or want translations. A sample config file would look like this { "languages" : ["de_de", "es_es"] } PyPalm reads the `languages` key to determine the languages to generate files for localization.
