  1. python 3 updates, tidied imports, docstrings 

     - removed (object) calls
- removed unnecessary super() calls
- added trailing commas as per 3.5, 3.6+ standards going forward
 - tidied imports
 - cleaned whitespace according to flake8
 - formatted some strings as f-strings
 - code formatting for  black
