ITE-backlight

This project aims to provide a set of simple utilities for controlling ITE 8291 keyboard backlight controllers. After compilation a set of binaries with the ite- prefix will be created; each one allows you to set your keyboard to the particular style given in the binary name prefix. For example, the ite-wave binary can be used to set the ‘wave’ style on the keyboard. Each binary can be executed to get the specific options applicable to that style.

Installation

Arch Linux

If you are using Arch Linux, you can install ite-backlight from AUR:

yay -S ite-backlight

This package also includes udev rules which means ITE utilities won’t need to be executed as root to access the device (requires restart after installation).

Building

Dependencies

The only run-time dependency of these utilities is the libusb library. To build ite-backlight you’ll need:

Compilation

Once you have the dependencies installed you should be able to build with the following commands:

cd ite-backlight
meson setup build
ninja -C build

Commands

The following commands are currently available:

  • ite-static: Set the keyboard to a static set of four colours spread across it’s four quadrants.
  • ite-mono: Set the keyboard backlight to a single colour across the keyboard.
  • ite-wave: Move the provided colour palette across the keyboard in a Mexican-wave style.
  • ite-breathe: Fade in and out the given colour palette across the keyboard.
  • ite-flash: Flash the given colour palette across the keyboard.

Each command has various options that can be accessed, just run the utility with no options.
