SlackSpace

SlackSpace is a web service that recieves webhook notifications from Rackspace monitors, translates the payload, and pushes the notifications to your Slack team on the channel of your choice. Setup is easy: No need to create incoming webhooks for your Slack team any more. Just sign in and pick the channels you want to receive notifications on. To learn more or try it out, go here.

Legacy App

The SlackSpace open-source app contains the core translation code to handle forwarding of webhooks between Slack and Rackspace. The open source code should still work just fine, however it will not be maintained any further. Integrations created with the demo app on Heroku will continue to work with the SlackSpace service.

The documentation that follows is for the open-source app and/or for the legacy demo app. For information and help with the new SlackSpace service, head on over to the main site.

Using the Demo

  • Create an incoming webhook on Slack for your team.

  • Copy the URI path of the webhook, just the part with the encrypted key, including the slashes within, but not the 'http://host.domain.com' part. Ex: nfheus98Hnb/HYGGLPzy6/nNHJKC&BW6tgfcu

  • Create a webhook notification on Rackspace with this url:

      https://slackspace.herokuapp.com/slack/webhook/?key=<your/unique/incoming/webhook/key>

  • Attach the Rackspace notification to an alarm of one of your Rackspace monitors. See the Rackspace Intelligence section of your account for API and help.

Running this app on your own server

  • Download the app.

  • Bundle install

  • Bundle exec rackup, or whatever commands you use to boot apps.

  • Point your Rackspace notification webhook url to this app:

      https://your.custom.domain/slack/webhook/?key=<your/unique/incoming/webhook/key>
