websocket-client maintainer here 👋 Hopefully I'm not intruding on an old issue, but I suspect the error this PR was supposed to resolve is websocket-client issue #694 which was fixed in websocket-client a day or two after this PR in websocket-client version 1.0.1. So most likely this PR can be reverted if you wish. Apologies for the trouble!
