The user that opened #2685 made the helpful suggestion that we look at enabling logging for the app installer. I did some digging and found electron-userland/electron-builder#5119 and electron-userland/electron-builder#6024 that both indicate there's ways to enable NSIS debug logging which should help on Windows.
