Welcome to Bitrig!

Bitrig is a free, fast, and secure Unix-like Open Source operating system. It is available on current hardware platforms. The source code is freely available under a permissive license.

To learn more please read the FAQ or visit us on IRC.

Current version

Our first release, Bitrig 1.0, is available on our website. We always do have current snapshots of our development tree available.

If you are interested in hacking on an OS please come talk to us on IRC. We hang out at #bitrig on irc.oftc.net.

Source trees

Bitrig uses git as it's main version control system. Please visit our git tips and tricks page for more details.

Currently Bitrig is comprised of three distinct repositories,

  • bitrig.git - The base system repository.
  • bitrig-xenocara.git - The Xorg/Xenocara respository.
  • bitrig-ports.git - The ports respository.
Anonymous access is possible via using the following clone examples:
git clone https://github.com/bitrig/bitrig.git
git clone https://github.com/bitrig/bitrig-xenocara.git
git clone https://github.com/bitrig/bitrig-ports.git

Snapshot releases

For more information see the snapshots page.

Known issues

We are fighting a couple of issues as of now and that list can be seen on the current issues page.

Support Us

Bitrig is currently financed through its developers. Colocation, bandwidth, hardware, etc all cost money to keep Bitrig running. If you'd like to help Bitrig, please consider a monetary donation:
