Golden Master

Hopefully the final release of FINes before the contest deadline. Adds final versions of sound effects, cleans up various graphics issues, and applies a general level of polish.

Prepping for demo launch

FINes is coming along, with many of the major features being in place and solidified. All of the plant animations are now present, various health and breeding mechanics are available, and many of the major menuing bugs have been resolved.

From this point forward, releases prior to 2/28/21 should only contain minor tweaks and fixes.

First public release

This is a testing build in preparation for the NESDev competition release. This release is intended to verify the interaction model and provide a testbed for many of the core mechanics.

On the shop screen, the plant shop is accessible by pressing select. I'm still trying to figure out how to communicate that

Features

  • Fish movement and schooling (rough, see Known issues)
  • Fish and plant purchasing in a centralized shop
  • Plant placement
  • Fish stat and health inspection
  • Fish selling
  • Fish breeding (rough, see known issues)

Missing features

  • Fish feeding
  • Spectator mode (runs fish movement and animation, but disables the health, growth, and breeding mechanics)
  • Plant removal/selling
  • Boons and cosmetics
  • Health mechanics
  • Music and sound effects

Known issues

  • Fish movement is prone to ocilation and repeating patterns
  • Single fish get stuck in a pattern and won't depart from that pattern unless another fish is added
  • Fish from different species will school
  • Breeding is performed very often and will quickly fill up the tank (20 fish)
  • Fish of different types will breed with each other
  • Breeding doesn't properly respect the sexes of the fish
  • Purchasing new fish in a single shop session will spawn them on top of each other and result in similar movement
