Version numbers

The following scheme has been chosen for the maintenance of Oxalis: <major>.<minor>.<patch> This is based on guidelines from SimVer or SemVer

Major releases: contains substantial new functionality. Likely not backwards compatible. Examples are switching from SOAP-based START protocol to AS2 to AS4 will constitute such a major release.

Minor release: contains new functionality or large bug fixes. Backwards compatibility is an objective, but can not be guaranteed.

Patch releases: Bug fixing only. Backwards compatibility can be expected.

Compatibility between releases

In general backward compatibility is an objective, however not always easy to achieve. I.e. changing some of the underlying dependencies, might cause problems.

You should consult the release notes :-)
