Welcome pilot!

Is your mech ready for some action? The vault is open and we're the first ones to the party. Let's get down to it.

This wiki will cover the basic elements to get your Lancer Game up and running on Foundry VTT.

What is Lancer?

Lancer is a mud and lasers RPG set in a distant future in which you play the role of elite mech pilots that will decide the fate of the galaxy. Lancer RPG is published by Massif Press and was created by Tom Parkinson Morgan and Miguel Lopez.

What do I need to play?

  • One license of Foundry VTT. You may self-host or use a hosting service to run your instance of the server.
  • At least one copy of the core rulebook which contains all the rules, including the rules for the Gamemaster, who will run the game. Bundled with the rulebook, you'll find LCPs that'll be required to create NPCs.
    • Comp/Con accounts, in which you can create your PCs in an easy and straightforward fashion.
      • Check our tutorial to see how to import your Comp/Con pilots to your Foundry server.
      • Currently, it's not possible to import NPCs and NPC encounters created on Comp/Con.

You can find resources and tips on how to run Lancer on the discord server Pilot.net. There you can find guides, maps and other resources that can help you run it smoothly. If you're a Game Master check out the #gm-corner, #rules-discussion and the #lancer-vtt for more information, as well as the #resource-hub.

Setting up your game

How do I set up my Foundry Server?

We recommend checking out Encounter Library to start learning about how to configure and run Foundry VTT. They also have basic instructions for players, in case you won't be running the game. You can also find more information over at Foundry's Knowledge Base to see more information about Foundry VTT.

A list of Recommended Modules to look at.

Eravel's Lancer Foundry Guide also has a lot of detailed advice and how-to's.

Basic Setup

You will need to create the scenes in which your the combat encounters will take place in, as well as character sheets (actors) for your players as well as for the NPCs.

⚠️ If your players are gonna sync their characters to Foundry, give your players permission to "Create Actors" or they won't be able to import from Comp/Con correctly.

Creating Actors

There are 4 types of actors on Lancer for Foundry VTT.

  • Pilots - Basic PC character sheet. You'll need at least one for each player. These will be linked to the mechs and deployables the combo will need.
  • Mechs - Mechs are the sheets that will be mostly used in combat. Will be linked to the Pilot sheet. These will be created when you import the pilot's sheet. If you aren't using Comp/Con you'll have to create these manually.
  • Deployables - Refer to the systems that create deployables. These are created on sync, but won't be statted out or have tokens for it, so remember to fill these out before starting your session.
  • NPCs - Create one of these for every type of enemies your players will be facing. These use the NPC creation rules on the GM's Section of the book. You can drag and drop classes, templates and traits from the compendium to fill these.

Creating NPCs
