ExceptionInInitializerError Encoding QR Code

I'm receiving an ExceptionInInitializerError when encoding a QR Code. Everything works through the IDE. When I try to run the compiled version, I receive the error. The IDE is NetBeans 12.6. Java platform is Microsoft Build of OpenJDK 17.0.1.12. Zxing version is 3.5.0. I'm creating an installer through NetBeans. Any ideas?

Here is the exception error:

This lacks specific detail about the exception that caused it. I'd guess it's Charset.forName("SJIS"). SJIS is not one of the few required supported charsets, but every JDK seems to support it. I wonder if your Java 17 doesn't support it somehow, but, OpenJDK 17 on my linux machine does. I don't know if that's the issue. Need more info.

O/S is WIndows 11. I just tried using Oracle's platform. I get the same error. I think this has something to do with NetBeans. When the installer is created, it only packages up the components it needs instead of the entire JRE. If that is the case, there must be a way to force it to include the missing character set. I'm going to try Advanced Installer.

Hm, yeah could be JRE vs JDK, though I'd be surprised. GB2312 isn't an encoding JVMs are required to support but I can't recall finding it unsupported in the last, oh, 15 years of this project :)

I figured out a solution. NetBeans is using JLINK to create the lightweight JRE. I was able to add jdk.charsets to java.base. Thank you for help. I could not have gotten there without the suggestion of the character sets.

My solution didn't work once I installed the app on a different computer. I did figure out version 3.4.1 does not have the same problem. The GB2312 character set was added in version 3.5. I downgraded to 3.4.1. Everything works. We're still trying to figure out how to get the extended character sets into the lightweight JRE.

Hm, OK I can just have it handle this case and refuse to decode QR codes with the (unofficial) "Hanzi" segments.

Oh, it occurs to me, I wonder if you're going to find other encodings aren't present, like EUC-JP. You're welcome to build the library from source and try it, not hard, and see if you hit that.

Anything in the extended character set class will not be supported until we can figure out how to include it in distributed JRE.
