• yq write strips completely blank lines from the output mikefarah/yq#515
• In place write strips out comments mikefarah/yq#19
• Comments not preserved in output mikefarah/yq#127
• Preserve formatting with in place writing mikefarah/yq#465
• Support for roundtripping YAML comments kislyuk/yq#106
• blank lines do not round-trip go-yaml/yaml#627
• Support for emitting and parsing comments #42

This is not on the TODO list for libyaml.
None of us has time for this.
I recommend to try out https://github.com/pantoniou/libfyaml which has support for this.
