What steps will reproduce the problem?

lost old chat history due to wire upgrade or re-install on the same machine.

What is the expected result?

old chat history and received files should not be lost on the same machine.

What is the actual result?

When wire is upgraded or re-installed, it change device ID and all previous chat and received files are lost unless a backup within wire is taken prior to upgrade/re-install.

What are the chances of setting device ID manually and recovering old chat history and received attachments, provided the old .config/Wire folder is intact on linux.
