useInfiniteScroll on an element that scrolls from bottom to top

I have a chat widow that loads the 10 most recent messages and scrolls to the bottom . (Most recent message is shown at the bottom of chat)

Can I use useInifiniteScroll to trigger when the user scrolls to within a certain distance of the top of the scrollable element rather than the bottom?

I guessed that setting {distance:-200} might do it, but sadly not
