Bug: picture-in-picture in web player can not be accessed when video is paused #734

As described in the mdn web docs,

The Picture-in-Picture API allow websites to create a floating, always-on-top video window. This allows users to continue consuming media while they interact with other sites or applications on their device.

Currently, users have to click the Download button (which opens the video file in the native media player of their respective browser) to access this functionality. This is counter-intuitive as well as cumbersome.

Which browser are you using? For me right clicking the video while it's playing perfectly works.

Okay, looks like our custom play/pause button is even affecting the native html5 player, c.f. https://media.ccc.de/v/37c3-11718-weil_be_excellent_to_each_other_nicht_reicht?player=html5
