Hi! I'm Wez and I've been working on Open Source projects since the late '90s. I've worked on quite a range of things from PHP's internals and extension ecosystem, through to automated debuggers, messaging systems, created the watchman filesystem monitoring service and the EdenFS source control aware fuse filesystem.

Your contribution will help me in a couple of ways:

  • Your support will enable me to continue building and maintaining WezTerm. It can be challenging to support across all the different operating systems and environments. There are thousands of users, and even though there have been a few contributors, it's really just carried by me in my spare time.
  • I'd like to be able to code-sign the macOS and Windows builds of WezTerm. This requires non-trivial recurring fees to maintain the developer identity that I can't justify as an out of pocket expense.
  • On the keyboard/hardware side, having more resources for more advanced/powerful maker gear and/or more frequently being able to order up some PCBs for a new idea helps to iterate and innovate more quickly.

WezTerm is big enough now that I cannot keep up with the backlog of issues; it's turned into real work. I was part of the mass of tech layoffs in November 2022, which, while it has taken away my income, has presented an opportunity to consider making wezterm an official part of my income stream. For that to work it needs to sustainably cover a significant portion of my outgoings; I have a mortgage and family of dependents to feed and cover their health insurance. At the time of writing the average monthly amount per wezterm sponsor is $5/month. If we can grow to 1000 sponsors with that same average then we're looking at a respectable start. Thanks!
