On clusters, we are dealing with different file systems. For support personal, it is advantageous to have

  • a Snakefile in HOME, along with all the scripts, configs, etc.
  • data somewhere else

Specifying --directory /filesystem/project/data will result in snakemake not finding its config and script files. Using workflow.source_path(...) will make a workflow robust in this regard.
