Come up with a deprecation policy #2297

Several parts of the bindgen API have been deprecated for a while but there seems to be no clear plan about if they should be eventually deleted or not. I'd propose a 3 stage process for deletion:

  • deprecated
  • hidden docs
  • deletion

it is not clear for me how much each one of these stages should last as I'm fairly new to the project

We still need to figure out when to remove deprecated stuff but there won't be any deprecated options after that PR is merged.
