Support for gitlab hosted (or any git accessible url) repositories?

Is there any reason this needs to be github specific? Can we get support for gitlab or any publicly clonable url?

Focussing on GitHub made it easy for us to organise the projects, because there's always a username and project name. Additionally, we scraped to project page to ensure it was a ruby project.

I guess some of this holds true for GitLab projects.

Git urls in itself don't guarantee that a username or project name is present.
