No matter the order that the components in the subject are given, they should be reordered to match standard expected form (at least by default)... I noticed this because r509-ca-http takes the subject as parameters, and depending on the ordering passed, a differently ordered subject is used.
Basically, I would expect most subjects to look like the following:
C=US, ST=California, L=Los Angeles, O=IANA, OU=RFC2606, CN=www.example.com
