Summary

Proposed fix for #924
Allows users to pass in a list of validators within the member validator of the deep_iterable validator. I feel this makes it more consistent with what users would expect. I atleast had a minor use case when using attrs and thought it would be worthwhile to support this.

This PR contains:

  • Small tweak to the deep_iterable validator
  • Updates to the doc string of deep_iterable
  • Tests for the new behaviour (backward compatible)
  • Minor doc string fix in a different test

If people think this is useful I would be happy to make a different PR to support the same for the deep_mapping validator

Pull Request Check List

  • Added tests for changed code.
Our CI fails if coverage is not 100%.
  • New features have been added to our Hypothesis testing strategy.
  • Changes or additions to public APIs are reflected in our type stubs (files ending in .pyi).
    • ...and used in the stub test file tests/typing_example.py.
    • If they've been added to attr/__init__.pyi, they've also been re-imported in attrs/__init__.pyi.
  • Updated documentation for changed code.
    • New functions/classes have to be added to docs/api.rst by hand.
    • Changes to the signature of @attr.s() have to be added by hand too.
    • Changed/added classes/methods/functions have appropriate versionadded, versionchanged, or deprecated directives.
Find the appropriate next version in our __init__.py file.
  • Documentation in .rst files is written using semantic newlines.
  • Changes (and possible deprecations) have news fragments in changelog.d.
  • Consider granting push permissions to the PR branch, so maintainers can fix minor issues themselves without pestering you.

A few minor issues, plus also needs a news fragment.

@hynek Responded to your comments, Hopefully CI should pass this time (tried running tox locally with py39 and the issue seems to be resolved)

Might be worth changing the repo workflow to allow the CI to run on PRs ?

Might be worth changing the repo workflow to allow the CI to run on PRs ?

It totally does; the problem is that crypto grifters started abusing free CIs for mining, so now the first PRs for a user on each project are restricted. :-/

mtremer pushed a commit to ipfire/ipfire-2.x that referenced this pull request Nov 11, 2022
- Updated from version 21.4.0 to 22.1.0
- Update of rootfile
- Changelog
   22.1.0 (2022-07-28)
	Backwards-incompatible Changes
		- Python 2.7 is not supported anymore.
Dealing with Python 2.7 tooling has become too difficult for a volunteer-run project.
We have supported Python 2 more than 2 years after it was officially discontinued and feel that we have paid our dues.
All version up to 21.4.0 from December 2021 remain fully functional, of course.
		  `#936 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/936>`_
		- The deprecated ``cmp`` attribute of ``attrs.Attribute`` has been removed.
This does not affect the *cmp* argument to ``attr.s`` that can be used as a shortcut to set *eq* and *order* at the same time.
		  `#939 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/939>`_
	Changes
		- Instantiation of frozen slotted classes is now faster.
		  `#898 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/898>`_
		- If an ``eq`` key is defined, it is also used before hashing the attribute.
		  `#909 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/909>`_
		- Added ``attrs.validators.min_len()``.
		  `#916 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/916>`_
		- ``attrs.validators.deep_iterable()``'s *member_validator* argument now also accepts a list of validators and wraps them in an ``attrs.validators.and_()``.
		  `#925 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/925>`_
		- Added missing type stub re-imports for ``attrs.converters`` and ``attrs.filters``.
		  `#931 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/931>`_
		- Added missing stub for ``attr(s).cmp_using()``.
		  `#949 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/949>`_
		- ``attrs.validators._in()``'s ``ValueError`` is not missing the attribute, expected options, and the value it got anymore.
		  `#951 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/951>`_
		- Python 3.11 is now officially supported.
		  `#969 <https://github.com/python-attrs/attrs/issues/969>`_

Hi @vedantpuri, I noticed the same behavior for deep_mapping today and then saw that you offered in the PR description to also fix that one. Since the issue is still open, I just wanted to ask if this has just been deprioritized or if there is maybe another reason that speaks against fixing?
