How to create an animated star warp effect?

I'm trying to figure out how I could rewrite the drei stars (https://github.com/pmndrs/drei/blob/1667297a64766b2d2c50198da35615554116bf3d/src/core/Stars.tsx) component in a way that lets me run a warp animation whenever someone clicks a button.

Basically I want something like this:

In the beginning, the stars should have no warp effect but when you click a button it should run the warp effect for about 2 seconds and then show normal stars again.

Does anyone know how to do this? I'm fairly new to this and it's sooo hard to make this animate effect 😩
