"sorta". Many photo viewers on the web will let you click in the "dark"/outside areas around a photo to close the photo viewer. I often find myself instinctively doing it when viewing a photo in NC, and then rudely :P being reminded that NC doesn't have that ability and having to move my cursor alllllll the way up over that relatively little "X" to close it.

Describe the solution you'd like

Clicking outside the photo closes the photo/viewer. Most obvious method is as a setting so those of us who want that can enable it and those of us who don't can disable it. Everyone's happy! :D

Describe alternatives you've considered
No others available AFAIK.

Additional context
For reference, here's a screenshot of a stray dog that kept finding it's way to my yard, that we later found out her name was Cupcake, and the aforementioned dark area surrounding the pic:
