I don't think "Internet" should be capitalised, and I think the language "on the Internet" is a bit dated.

Agreed - I've raised #7195 to cover this off.

I don't think "Internet" should be capitalised, and I think the language "on the Internet" is a bit dated.

This is a curious one, but I'm minded to agree (not that I am a linguist!).

The Oxford English Dictionary use the capitalised version in the examples which form part of their definition of "internet", such as:

‘Whenever a user goes to a Web page on the Internet, a request for the page is sent to a server.’
‘It will be a virtual network, living on top of the Internet, but it will grow very rapidly.’
‘As with any network service you should only expose it to the Internet if you need to.’
‘After all, a hyperlink is merely a road marker on the Internet, and can never be unlawful.’

…however, not everyone agrees. Collins, for example:

The internet is the computer network which allows computer users to connect with computers all over the world, and which carries email.
