[Feature request] support for inline animated gifs #1939
Comments
You need to deactivate the picture compression in settings :)! |
Maybe animated .gifs should be excluded from being compressed. |
Either exclude GIF or at least add an option to "Keep GIF animation" if picture compression is activated. |

Such option does not make sense. Resizing without preserving animation |
If this is inflicted please set default to not-loop animation. |
I could see this to extend emoji use, but would tire of large gif

Since Open Whisper Systems added GIPHY to the Signal Messenger I guess more and more people will be using GIFs in their conversations. |
Their implementation looks out of this projects scope though: https://whispersystems.org/blog/giphy-experiment/ since they control the chat server. |
Absolutely. That's why I don't see a gif search engine coming to conversations, but we could have gif animations playing in the chat like they do in Signal for ages. |
No. Please, no. |
Any updates here? I cannot move bunch of people to use conversations because of this! |
Any news on this subject? xabber implements this feature natively |
Would like to see this also. Many messaging apps do this to brings GIFs to life in the conversation. |
Well, just found this fork of Conversations that does the job nicely, and adds many other improvements :-) |
@ver-luisant that's a fork of Blabber that's a fork of Conversations, inception style :) |
It would be nice if animated gifs shared in a conversation would be shown directly inline. at the moment an animated gif get's converted to jpg and shared ad jpg.
