are there any plans to update this module to support http2?

That ones going to depend on upstream (ecstatic...and farther up) support first.

Would you have an interest in exploring / coding this? Thanks!

Can you elaborate on what you mean by this? I might be able to try to look into it.

Edit: So I just did some reading and it looks like ecstatic will never be updated again?
