How do I install the latest version of golangci-lint

Within the context of a project, I am running:

• go get github.com/golangci/golangci-lint@latest
• go install github.com/golangci/golangci-lint

but the go install will not install:

 plastikfan@Janus  ~/dev/github/go/snivilised/arcadia λ   chore/apply-auto-check-via-gh-action ±  go install github.com/golangci/golangci-lint
no required module provides package github.com/golangci/golangci-lint; to add it:
        go get github.com/golangci/golangci-lint

The go get github.com/golangci/golangci-lint is adding it to the go.mod file, which should not be required, because the project does not explicitly use golangci-lint. So a go mod tidy just removes that entry and then we are no firther forward in getting the latest version of golangci-lint.

I really need to get this fixed, because golangci-lint is returning a different result in ci than when it is running locally and the difference between the 2 are different versions of golangci-lint.

golangci-lint run --version
golangci-lint has version v1.50.1 built from (unknown, mod sum: "h1:C829clMcZXEORakZlwpk7M4iDw2XiwxxKaG504SZ9zY=") on (unknown)

But the ci version is running @latest, which is v1.52.2

But I recommend using our binary https://golangci-lint.run/usage/install/#binaries

Thanks @ldez, I installed the binary as per your recommendation. However, the go install github.com/golangci/golangci-lint@latest did not work as I said in my question, that's what I would like to know the answer for (it's more of a generic go install question I realise, but I haven't experienced this particular issue other than with golangci-lint).

In your question, you say go get github.com/golangci/golangci-lint@latest and not go install github.com/golangci/golangci-lint@latest
