Mermaid Diagrams not rendering Material MKDocs

When trying to insert a mermaid diagram into my mkdocs:

  A[Start] --> B{Error?};
  B -->|Yes| C[Hmm...];
  C --> D[Debug];
  D --> B;
  B ---->|No| E[Yay!];

All i see is the code, no diagram is rendered. My configuration here is:

markdown_extensions:
  - pymdownx.superfences:
      custom_fences:
        - name: mermaid
          class: mermaid
          format: !!python/name:pymdownx.superfences.fence_code_format

Am i missing something? I read it should just work out of the box?

This does not seem to be related to Mkdocs-Mermaid.

What kind of tool are you using, or what doc are you referring to?

Im using mkdocs, version 1.5.3 (Python 3.9). I have a MD file with the above mermaid code in it. When i load the site served from mkdocs serve the mermaid code has not been rendered.

Specifically I'm using material for MKDocs...

You might have to refer to the doc of Material for MkDocs, or to their discussion page?
