I'm having baby number 2 馃帀. This is an issue to track my leave plan so that you all know when to expect reduced capacity.

My leave plan

I hope to split my paternity leave between just after the birth, and July/August of this year. This will let me spend time supporting Claire at the beginning of the birth, then loop back into work as we move past the chaos phase. I intend to move back to the States in July / August, so I will need to take some more paternity leave time then to oversee the move (and to continue focusing my time on Claire and the infant). My goal is to take about 2 months off in total, split between these two periods.

Moreover, I aim to be no-longer gatekeeping any projects, planning, or important actions by 1 week before the due date. I will continue to be engaged in work stuff until the baby is born, but as a secondary / support person rather than the lead.

This is roughly my plan:

  • Day I anticipate being reduced capacity: February 21st
  • Birth due date: February 28th
  • Rough date for slow return: March 21st-28th (depending on how things go)
  • Rough date for second period off: Sometime in July
