In jupyterbook, figures provided by code can have a caption and they can be referenced by e.g. {numref}`fig1`
This is done by adding the cell metadata.

"mystnb": {
        "figure": {
            "caption": "test of a figure.",
            "name": "fig1"
        }

In jupyterlab-myst, those figures have

  • no caption
  • they are skipped in numbering
  • the references to those figures provide an error.
