• Before running the eslint release:
  • Merge Build: Don't freeze Rollup output (fixes eslint/eslint#15036) eslintrc#56.
  • Release @eslint/eslintrc
  • Bump eslint's dependency to the new @eslint/eslintrc version. Upgrade: unfrozen @eslint/eslintrc (fixes #15036) #15146
• Since this follows a release candidate, merge only semver-patch changes.
• Immediately after the release, merge Update: remove meta.docs.category in core rules archive-website#848.
• In the highlights section of the blog post, include changes since and including the first beta.
• Ensure the release notes link to the migration guide.
• At any point after the release, remove --force from npm install commands in GitHub Actions (ci: Remove Node 16 CI prerelease workaround (refs #14933) #14935) and Jenkins. Update: we still need --force because eslint-plugin-jsdoc doesn't include 8.0.0 in its peer dependency range yet.

So far, there are no reports of anything broken in ESLint core! We do have tracking issues for plugins that are working on support for v8:

• eslint-plugin-import error After Upgrade Eslint 8.0.0  #15148
• Bug: (TypeError: Failed to load plugin '@typescript-eslint' declared in '.eslintrc.json': Class extends value undefined is not a constructor or null) #15149
• Bug: using babel-eslint parser throws error #15157

There’s one change in @eslint/eslintrc that may be merged for a patch release to improve compatibility with Jest. I’ll hold off another day to come to a decision there.
