What is the point of the postUpdate, postRemove and postPersist events? #11184

I'm getting to know doctrine better and I've been wondering what the point of the postUpdate, postRemove and postPersist events is. Since they happen before anything has been written on disc it seems like they wouldn't have a lot of usages since you can't be sure that operation has actually happened. Is it for internal purposes?
