It would be helpful to include the generation timestamp either in the html meta tags or visible somewhere in the generated page.

Where should this date be printed, do you think?

I think there are two candidate: at the top and bottom.

At the top, It could appear as one of the starting headers:
Generated: YYYY MMMM DD, HH:MM:SS GMT

At the bottom, same data format but probably in italics.

I imagine having a flag to turn this on or off will be useful, in the case folks don't want the date present in the text.
