What is the problem you're trying to solve

I try to load a image like busybox.tar.gz, but 'ctr: archive/tar: invalid tar header' appears ,but docker can load this format file. Otherwise I must gzip it first ,it's not convenience. If needed ,I'd like to add this feature.

Describe the solution you'd like

Check this file is gzip, and then uncompress it first .

The questions all caused by not tar format data. But this is a feature for container import gzip is not same with you , your issus looks like a oci file problem , may your oci mediatype return 'application/vnd.docker.image.rootfs.diff.tar' but the layer data is gzip.
