How do we handle integrating structopt fixes?

Dependabot notified me of a structopt update that included TeXitoi/structopt#483. This seems relevant for clap but made me wonder about the problem generally.

When was our last sync-up with structopt and how do we track it so things don't fall through the cracks for future changes?

We can't do any code sync ups anymore since they diverged by quite a bit. If we want to port something, we have to manually do it.

And I personally am not tracking anything because they are considered 2 different libraries now.

I see it like vim and neovim where they are different but there is enough shared heritage to be worth tracking changes and marking them as either not-relevant or rewriting the fix for the new use case. Or put another way, relevant user feedback is coming in from two different sources, clap's issue tracker and structopt's.
