This sounds like a great idea, it sounds like a decent substitute and a great addition to this plugin.
If it is of any help, here is a (pipedream) mockup of how it could look:

You mention in your thoughts that it may be an option to just remove the column - I have no numbers of how many people use this feature, nor do I think that many people have 500+ entries in their databases, it could be just that my requirements are out of bounds for what KeePass (kdbx) was designed to serve.
