The team maintaining resources.data.gov should align on and publish the criteria they will use to assess new content submissions to the repository. The 10x Data Federation team has drafted the following as suggested high-level criteria.

Definition of done:

  • Resources.data.gov team aligns on criteria for evaluating new content
  • Criteria are published to the website

Suggested criteria

Resource must-have attributes:

  • Usefulness/relevance to a wide variety of agencies
  • High quality*
  • Current, and kept current
  • Free to use
  • An identified creator (whether agency or individual)
  • Directly facilitates distributed data management, data interoperability, adoption of open data practices, and broader data standards activities

Resources nice-to-have attributes:

  • Contact information for the creator of the resource
  • Modifiable by its users
  • Open-source

Resource must-not attributes:

  • No proprietary tools
  • No required collaboration, or promotional materials, for specific vendors or partners

Case studies / Examples:

The criteria for case studies/examples may be slightly different than the above

  • Should be agency-specific
  • Should document generalizable learnings / approaches
  • Should not sell the services of a particular vendor
  • Should have an identified creator (whether agency or individual) and contact information for follow-up questions

*High quality: The definition of "high-quality" will need to be articulated by the r.d.g team

  • Could be in consultation with the CDO Council
  • Could be based on examples/use cases of this resource in action
  • Could be based on endorsement from SME

Flagging there are many non-gov sources of resources on the site. There should be criteria for when ngo items get added and not.
