Currently, there are several ways that ORCID iDs can be associated with a person in DSpace:
Ticket #9086 will address printing or displaying these ORCID iDs from any source on the work landing pages, however, my understanding is that only ORCID iDs that are associated with person entities are included in the work metadata, and that ORCID iDs associated with authority records are not included in work metadata (correct?).
The problem here is that ALL ORCID iDs in the system should be associated with work metadata.
Describe the solution you'd like
Ideally, if possible, any ORCID iD present in the system, regardless of the source/whether it's associated with a person entity or an authority record, would be automatically included with the work metadata for items authored by the individual(s) with the ORCID iD(s).
Describe alternatives or workarounds you've considered
For institutions that have been using the ORCID lookup tool in versions 5 and 6 of DSpace, ORCID iDs are only associated with authority records, not person entities. So, to help with including these in work metadata, and help those institutions migrate to newer versions of DSpace, it would be helpful to have a way to migrate authority record ORCID iDs to person entities. Could there be a special tool to allow this? (see related ticket: #9530)
