Most Vulkan games don't appear to work with latest Proton or GE-Proton #953
Comments
Just a note, inside desktop mode I was able to get vkcube working just fine, so I don't think it's directly a "lack of vulkan support". |
Looking at protondb all the games you have tried are known to be problematic. Try some games that are known to work. You can use our games list here: https://chimeraos.org/games/ There is also a list of your ChimeraOS Verified and Playable games generated as a collection directly inside Steam. Try some games from the Verified collection. Logs can be found in |
I also tried Alice Madness Returns, which has a "platinum" on the ProtonDB. https://www.protondb.com/app/19680 and I couldn't get it to launch with any of the Protons I tried (I tried GE and 4.11 and the latest vanilla Proton). I'll give the logs a look, maybe I just need to install a library or driver or something. |
@alkazar Sorry, what might I look for to find an exception and/or error with the proton stuff? I ran this command in the logs folder:
Maybe I'm missing something but I do not see any errors there. Similarly for Bionic Commando:
And just looking at errors:
Obviously there's a bunch of errors but I'm not seeing anything that might cause an immediate crash like that? |
If it will help, I've also dumped the |
Ok, so I got a couple of games working, but only with Proton 4.11. I got Bionic Commando and Alice Madness Returns working fine, but only after I hard-set the resolution to 1080p and pegged Proton to 4.11. Any ideas to why that might be the case? Do I need to install something? Is there a missing container framework or something? |
I managed to get Riddick working with the GOG version and using Heroic Launcher. I was not able to get it to work with the Chimera web installer. |
I installed ChimeraOS this afternoon on this computer: https://a.co/d/7GpHv4y
The install was relatively smooth, but one bit of weirdness is that that I cannot get most Windows games even launching. This is from the main big picture mode, not the desktop variants.
With the default Proton install, I tried:
Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena
Bionic Commando
Super Motherload.
All of which which will spin for awhile, open the Steam spinner, and then immediately crash, without even an error.
The first ones I thought might have some issues with DRM, so I thought there's a potential issue with that, but I know Super Motherload worked fine on CrossOver on my Mac only two weeks ago.
I then tried the latest GE-Proton (9-5), with no difference in results.
I was eventually able to get Super Motherload working by changing my Proton version to 4-11, but that didn't fix Riddick or Bionic Commando.
If I could see a log or something that would really be helpful, but I'm not sure how to find any kind of log dump. Any ideas on how to fix it? I'm happy to provide more information.
